Conducted tempo on stick

Some tempo changes presume a conductor to pause, cut off and bring in again.

Fermata, the pause

The fermata holds a note, rest or measure more than the usual time. Place the fermata over the note, rest or double bar line to be held.

Fetura, Tram lines, the Cut off

At a fetura the music stops. The conductor signals the stop and brings the musicians in again. A fetura usually follows a fermata (but doesn’t have to).

Indicate at what tempo you want the music to resume.

Colla voce

When the passage to follow the fetura is to be played out of tempo by a solo instrument the term Colla voce is used.

Conducted

When the passage to follow the fetura is to be played out of tempo by the full orchestra or a major part of the orchestra the term Conducted is used.
